Steve G0KYA has an article in "Radcom" that refers to your tests between two antennas. I am not sure that WSPR is a tool for propagation research. The assumption you made from signal to noise ratios may be correct, but I think this is just an assumption.
Please look at http://homepages.wightcable.net/~g4zfq/3810-0409.htm ,you will see tests between two antennas where I have signal and noise recorded. The jagged traces near the bottom represent noise (Not the smoother frequency traces).
I monitored the Equadorian time signal on 3810KHz, recording signals from a horizontal wire and from a vertical Butternut.Over a period of several weeks I noted that sometimes after sunrise the received noise on the vertical dropped more than it did on the horizontal. In WSPR this would just give a higher signal to noise figure, if I wished I could suggest that the signal strength increased, but it did not.
I have just emailed Joe, suggesting he makes a version with signal and noise recorded separately, then, with AGC turned off and an attenuator inserted if needed, more useful results could be obtained.
